My name is Kareem Fahmy, I’m from Egypt and I am a 3rd year Mass Communication student in CUD. I participated in this event last year and am participating again this year because I want to help people who are less fortunate than me, like homeless people for example. When I participated last year it was so much fun, the experience was just wonderful and easier than I thought it would be. The experiences participants go through in this event are nothing compare to the experiences homeless people go through every day and giving up on my day to day activities was not hard at all. Overall, one of my best experiences because it was fun and it felt good that I was helping people who needed my help.
DAY 1
the first day was great and hopefully the coming days will be a lot better. In my first day I went around the university asking all the people i saw for donation. A lot of the people were really generous and donated money, some people donated a few coins because that was all they had, others donated anything between 5 and 100 Dirhams. My target for the day was 300 Dirhams and I managed to exceed that. I raised a total of 405. It is a different experience and I had to live a different lifestyle from the one that am used to; however, it was not a difficult or harsh experience like most people think. I had a lot of people last year and this year asking me why am I doing this to myself? my answer is I want to help the people who are less fortunate than I am and it is a fun experience. I learned a lot of new things. I realized that living with objects such as mobile phones and computers is not important. I hope the next four days will be more exciting and hopefully I can raise more than what I raised on the first day.

Day 2
ReplyDeleteThe second day was also a great day. We woke up before anybody came to university and I studied for my 9 AM quiz, i did really well on the quiz and then I had another class from 12-3. After that I went back to asking people for donations. I didn't manage to get as many donations on the second day, I only collected 212.75 Dirhams at the end of the day. We had dinner at night and we also spent the night playing cards. When we got tired we went to sleep but 2 hours later One of the boys woke me up and told me that it was drizzling and that they woke up to the sound of thunder so we had to go and sleep indoors so that it wont rain while we are outdoors. Overall it was a good day even though I didn't get as many donations as I wanted to but hopefully on day 3 i will be able to collect more money.
Day 3
ReplyDeleteThe third day was the best of so far because I managed to collect more donations than the previous two days, I got to a total of 430 dirhams by the end of day 3. Other than that it was very similar to the rest of the week, our routine is going to classes, then going around the university to ask people for money, eating than going back to sleep at night. Tuesday night's sleep was the most comfortable out of the 4 nights so far. Since most of the participants are doing this for the second time, we now know more about each other than we use to and we are closer friends now.
