Hey,
my name is Betty Fawole and my major is Architecture in the Canadian
University of Dubai. I’m a Nigerian/German brought up in both Dubai and
Germany. The main reason I chose to volunteer is because I feel the need
to reduce the number of homeless and socially displaced, to meet the
basic needs of the homeless worldwide and we also, as a society, need to
acknowledge the fact that being homeless isn't simply the difference
between sleeping outside instead of inside. What is a home? It's a place
to feel safe, a measure of empowerment and somewhere people can make
positive decisions about their life. It's so much more than a roof, yet
public opinion struggles to look beyond the minority of rough sleepers
to the millions of people without a permanent home who are stuck in
insecure temporary accommodation. People want to connect with others
that share the same interest in helping those who truly need it .That’s
why, supporting this 5 days homeless campaign, to help me feel like I’m
aiding and supporting the homeless and spreading the awareness. To know
that I’ve made a difference and somewhere and somehow my contribution
and efforts has made a less fortunate person smile, knowing I’ve gained
new skills and get first-hand experience using them and have the
satisfaction of knowing I have made a real difference in someone’s life
and definitely having fun while doing it.
